“It’s Hot in Topeka”

August 5, 2008

The past several days have been hot, hot, hot. We took the boys swimming on Saturday, and Jeff and I both got a bit sunburned. I barely left the house on Sunday, and was only too glad to be in the AC at work yesterday. There was a heat advisory for all three days. Last evening, at 930pm, it was still 90 degrees, and the heat index was maybe 96 – just dreadful. Today we’re having a “cooldown,” sort of, expecting a high of only 92 degrees. And maybe some rain soon, if we’re lucky.

We saw this on the Cartoon Network a year or so ago. The show is called “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends,” and in this bit, Bloo hears the weather forecast for Topeka, and then runs with it.

Another reason to love Friday Night Lights

July 23, 2010

Because season four of Friday Night Lights was broadcast on DirecTV before they began showing it on NBC, I’d already seen occasional comments in Entertainment Weekly last winter praising it: yes, some beloved characters are gone or only appear in a few episodes, but you’ll soon love these new characters,…

Belated post-Patty Griffin show post

April 4, 2010

FINALLY posting about the Patty Griffin concert that Jeff and I were lucky enough to attend exactly one week ago, in Lawrence, Kansas. Patty was amazing. Her voice in concert is fantastic, very much like what you hear on her CDs. The “second billed artist,” not really an opening act…

Christmas comedy: “The 12 Pains of Christmas”

December 24, 2008

Now I’m at the extreme opposite end of the holiday music spectrum. I searched YouTube for the video for “The 12 Pains of Christmas” by Bob Rivers Comedy Corp., which has been one of my favorites since the very first time I heard it – I was about 15. I…

That’s HILARIOUS! I just got home from work and needed that laugh! I love that cartoon! “Topeka” IS a pretty funny name when you think of it! 🙂

It seems we’re all burning up this summer! It has been much hotter in MA this year. Fortunately today has been pretty mild (upper 70s), but of course I was at work, indoors in AC, most of that time. Considering how weird the weather has been lately, I hope winter won’t be too bad this year!

Thanks for your comment, Marie – I’m glad you got a laugh from it! Thank heavens the past several days have been much better as far as temperature goes – although it rained most of Saturday and was even a bit cool! It wasn’t bad, just strange.

It’s funny what kinds of patterns you find in weather, sometimes. What you say about winter reminds me…when Kyle was a baby, in 2000, that summer was a scorcher. About half the days in August were 100 degrees or more, I remember hearing that on the news – and I’d bet most of the other 15 days were between 95 and 99! July was hot, but August was worse. Then, in December and into January ’01, we had several weeks that were FRIGID. I was brushing snow off my car one evening after work thinking about how pleasant it felt outside – and it was just over 20 degrees! So August was close to 100, and December was close to zero. You never know what’s over the next hill!
